We are looking for a dynamic and driven Health and Safety Manager to join our team. Based out of our head office in Salford at least one day a week, this role will involve frequent travel.
The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring that the organisation meets the necessary legislative obligations, as well as driving the continuous improvement of health and safety behaviours and practices throughout the business. This role oversees the ongoing development of relevant policies and processes, ensuring all staff are adhering to these standards, as well as the provision of advice, support, and guidance at a manager level on all health and safety and compliance matters. Specific responsibilities include:
- Promoting a positive health and safety culture throughout the organisation
- Developing health and safety management systems, including ISO assurance systems and compliance with external audits
- Managing, attending, and co-ordinating audits, including liaising with external contractors including client site audits
- Managing a small team of Health and Safety Advisors
- Supporting and developing the health and safety and health and wellbeing strategies
- Developing internal and external networks to allow performance to be benchmarked
- Ensuring compliance with legislation and incorporate any updates in law into the health and safety policy
- Conducting business risk analysis and risk assessments
The suitable candidate for this role will have an industry recognised qualification such as the NEBOSH Certificate (as a minimum) or Diploma, along with experience of health and safety in an operational setting. We are also ideally looking for someone who has (or is working towards) IOSH membership, a track record of project management, and experience of reaching/maintaining externally audited management standards such as ISO9001 and OHSAS18001. Experience in the rail industry would be desirable but is not essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to organise and prioritise workload, and a flexible approach to work are essential attributes for this role.
