*Work in partnership with the Building Safety & Compliance Manager, take overall responsibility for the health and safety function associated with all areas of work within the Assets and Technical Services functions
*Provide assurance to the Building Safety & Compliance Manager to ensure all construction health, safety and environmental requirements meet current and future health and safety legislation and the needs of WDH, and
*Deliver the development, implementation, maintenance and review of health and safety strategy and policies.
Core duties & accountabilities
*Take the lead role in the development of systems and processes to ensure effective health, safety and environmental management in all areas of compliance;
*Be responsible for site monitoring and site visits and partner organisations to carry out audits/inspections to ensure policies and procedures are being followed, and reporting on activities undertaken on all sites, at a strategic committee level provide effective solutions to any risks identified;
*Be responsible for conducting frequent HSE inspections at the Trident Park Stores, providing assurance to the Assets function that requirements to the Waste Management Policy are met;
*Develop administrative systems appropriate to the tasks undertaken including recording and retrieval of information, introducing new working practices, producing management reports and statistics;
*Develop safe systems of work, risk assessments, to ensure all unsafe work practices are eliminated or reduced as low as reasonably practicable from within WDH construction and maintenance activities;
*Provide complex advice and guidance to managers and other areas in the organisation within the existing health and safety policies and procedures, promoting awareness and commitment to health, safety and environmental good practice;
*Be responsible for the management of health and safety monitoring systems associated with health and safety inspections. Carry out inspections and audits to ensure all sites operated by the organisation comply with the CDM 2015 regulations, producing professional and competent reports from the inspections highlighting breaches of legislation and areas of potential risk to the organisation, recommending cost effective remedial action;
*Advise, direct and support managers and others in the implementation of health and safety policies and the development and operation of safe systems of work, inclusive of specialist areas of work, e.g. fire safety regulations, asbestos, Legionella, environment, lifts and highrise buildings.
*Manage Principal Designer and Construction Health and Safety Advisor posts within the Compliance team, providing support, direction and mentorship when necessary; and
*Liaise with the Health and Safety and Sustainability Teams in achieving environmental best practice on all construction projects.
*A qualification at Level 5 of the Qualifications and Credit Framework, such as a Diploma in Health and Safety or equivalent
*NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent or working towards
*Evidence of continuing professional development, be a Graduate member of IOSH and working towards Chartered Membership.
*A qualification at Level 3 of the Qualifications and Credit Framework, such as a Teaching Qualification
*Significant and relevant experience in the Construction industry
*Experience of delivering in-house health and safety training
*Knowledge of the roles of the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015
