Health Care Support Worker - Specialist Older Males

Caring and compassionate, you'll be assisting our dedicated nursing team. You'll play an important role in the daily routine of our service users.

Here at Wyke, the calm environment of our intensive care ward welcomes men with acute mental health needs and our dedicated, multidisciplinary team work with the individual to create a seamless route from referral to discharge. For older males, we have a specialist ward for treating service users with complex mental and physical needs. There is no upper or lower age limit, but this care setting provides support for challenging behaviour alongside other conditions such as Huntington’s, physical frailty, terminal illness, diabetes and cardiac problems.

Fairfax Ward is a specialist locked-door mental health service for older men, supporting up to 22 people who are experiencing behaviour which may be challenging. The service takes a holistic approach to care and support, aiming to reduce medication over time, getting to know the person and looking after them as individuals.

Working as an active member of our dynamic MDT, you’ll provide support for our nursing staff including the admission, assessment, implementation and discharge of inpatients, with a focus on dignity and safety at all times. You’ll bring with you a sound level of literacy and numeracy skills and preferably an NVQ level 2/3 in a relevant care setting. With some experience working in a secure a psychiatry service you’ll have a good level of physical fitness and a strong, flexible mental aptitude in order to meet the demands of the role. Demonstrating the abilities, experience and skills needed to deal effectively with challenging situations, you have an active interest in developing your knowledge and skills.
