Health and Safety Manager

With a wealth of experience in their industry, our client is the market leader in hygiene technology solutions in both the UK and Ireland. Leading the field in food, retail and hospitality sectors for over 30 years, our client is an innovative family run business. Due to continued growth, an experienced Health and Safety Manager is required to join their team in North Manchester

Ideally your background will be in the chemical/warehouse manufacturing industry. This is an exciting opportunity to join an international business, joining a progressive and supportive team. Our client operates on a COMAH site, candidates who have worked in an equally regulated environment will excel in this role.

You will hold responsibility for the sites' occupational Health and Safety and auditing, driving a positive Health and Safety culture throughout all levels of the business.

The Role:

Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain awareness and understanding of safety and environmental legislation relevant to the business, to:
  • Ensure that the relevant sections of the legal register are kept up to date
  • Evaluate compliance with the legislation
  • Report the status of legal compliance to the management team

Safety Management

  • Provide safety advice within the organization to meet statutory, regulatory and organizational requirements - Health and Safety Advisor - see company safety policy.
  • As a member of the EHS team: developing, implementation and maintaining the SMS sections of the Integrated Management System
  • Internal auditor, member of the internal audit team. Responsibility for carrying out assigned audits
  • Supporting management to comply with the requirements of the safety management system, including,
  • Organising and chairing safety meetings
  • Providing safety training to meet internal and regulatory requirements, within your own competencies,
  • Providing assistance and support with risk assessments and safe working procedures
  • Providing assistance and support with Holchem’s approved contractor scheme
  • Providing assistance and support with Holchem’s Permit to Work procedure
  • Providing assistance and support with incident reporting and investigations,


  • Member of MAH team

Environmental Management

  • As a member of the EHS team: developing, implementing and maintaining the Integrated Management System
  • Internal auditor, member of the internal audit team. Responsibility for carrying out assigned audits

Management Role

  • Promoting safety culture at all levels of the organisation and driving best practice,
  • Taking action to stop or prevent anything that is likely to cause serious harm.
  • Supporting the organisation to maintain and achieve accreditations/certifications, including:
  • 14001
  • 18001/45001
  • Safecontractor
  • 9001
  • Engaging with key internal and external stakeholders including: contractors, regulators, enforcement agencies, and suppliers
    Knowledge Skill and Experience
  • Relevant safety qualifications
  • Extensive Safety Health and Environment experience
  • Manufacturing, warehousing, transport experience
  • Chemical processing experience
  • Environmental management experience
  • Safety management competences
  • Member of IOSH
