Head of Technical and Certification

A market leading specialist services provider within the construction industry is looking for a Head of Technical and Certification. The successful candidate will head up the technical side of the business, propose new ideas to expand into new markets - and will have a real opportunity to shape the business over the coming years. This role is a pivotal link between the house-building customers and the company itself.

This is an office based role however some travel to the customers’ sites will be required. The Head of Technical and Certification will maintain relationships with existing clients and establish relationships with new clients. You will be expected to be able to deal with senior-level individuals including: politicians, civil servants, directors, trade associations and other industry bodies.


  • Making sure that the technical team is delivering new designs that reflect the demands of the industry.

  • Ensure that the business follows building control obligations.

  • Liaise with house-builders to ensure that the design book remains relevant to their needs.

  • Promote the business within the house-building industry through meetings, calls, conferences and site visits.

  • Promote the company by making presentations; preparing articles, papers, and delivering training as appropriate

  • Be responsible for delivering performance monitoring requirements of the scheme.

  • Ensuring compliance with protocols.

  • Selection of suitable contractors..

  • Working with the Quality Manager to ensure that the quality management system is effective and in accordance with ISO/IEC 17065

  • Establish and maintain the UKAS accreditation

The ideal candidate will have:

  • In-depth knowledge of Construction methods and the operation of the house building industry.

  • In-depth knowledge of construction and of how Building Inspectors work, includingbuilding control standards and regulations.

  • Be able to critique potential new designs from a technical and commercial perspective.

  • Practical and pragmatic approach.

  • Full membership of a relevant professional body

  • Excellent communication, evaluation and diplomacy skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and simply.

  • Leading, managing and inspiring the technical team.

  • Negotiating effectively with internal and external people at all levels.

  • Must have a Degree or higher education level in Construction or related subject.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Certification systems including UKAS accreditation

  • Building acoustics

  • Health and safety

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, basic Microsoft Access knowledge a plus.
