A reputable organisation based in Taunton are looking for a successful and proven Head of Software Engineering to set the strategic direction for the software engineering area. In align to this the successful candidate will be actively engaging with the software engineering community at all levels to support the strategic direction.
Key duties include:
Your average day may involve the following:
Advocating use of modern software engineering practices across the organisation
Defining the strategic direction for the software engineering area and communicating widely
Managing the appropriate resourcing for upcoming near-term projects - dealing with senior stakeholders and competing priorities
Leading change in methods of delivery including the building and integration of cross cutting services which will benefit many deliveries
Developing relationships and working with external suppliers/partners on active/upcoming projects
Considering skills, talent pipelines and recruitment activities for senior software engineering roles
Engaging with the internal governance processes and managing risks around our digital services
Representing the organisation at large events to raise the profile of software engineering at the and help recruitment
Understanding organisation wide inputs which will inform the strategy for the software engineering practice
Responsibilities will include:
Direct and indirect management of 50 technical staff
Acting as an advocate of modern software engineering practices and driving change to keep up to date with technology/digital approaches
Ensuring that the systems built are secure, supportable and work with appropriate teams across the organisation to embed best practice.
Ensuring the appropriate resourcing is in place for upcoming near-term projects - dealing with senior stakeholders and competing priorities
Ensuring we have the right skills across the practice, shape career paths and recruit the right talent - identify skills gaps and key dependencies within technical teams
Engaging with internal governance and risk processes to ensure systems are delivered in governance, and corporate risks are owned and managed
Setting up new/ and manage active software engineering supplier relationships/projects and ensure we have a pool of high-quality partners/suppliers to call on to fulfil the corporate objectives
Represent the organisation at large events to raise the profile of software engineering at the and help recruitment
Setup external collaborations which are beneficial to the organisation
Manage/own corporate risks and activities associated with delivering digital services/software engineering
