Allen Lane is looking for a Head of Service Design, to lead a range of service design pieces and embed the principles of Digital Service Standards across a large local authority in the South East. The council has set out a challenging 4 year strategy and placed their service standards (based on GDS digital standards) right at the heart of how they do things and need a leader to bring these to fruition.
As the Head of Service Design you’ll be responsible for shaping what good design looks like across the council - from working strategically with senior leaders to embed a user centred and customer focussed design culture to shaping end to end service changes on the ground. You’ll be the key design lead for the council, influencing better outcomes for residents and users across the county.
This role will include the line management and mentorship of a dynamic service design team consisting of Web Developers, Interaction Designers and UX (user experience designers) as well as managing the relationship with a digital consultancy.
Essential experience includes:
- Substantial experience of engaging multidisciplinary teams with a user-centred design process, including workshop planning and facilitation.
- Experience working on all levels of a service, from high-level flows and journeys to the fine detail of individual parts (different types of content and user-led interactions across digital and non-digital channels)
- Substantial experience of working strategically on end to end services, demonstrating improved service outcomes as well as costed savings against implemented process improvements
- Deep understanding of the web, technology and people particularly in relation to service design; preferably gained through experience of designing government services and delivering change in the public sector
This is a chance to lead exciting change to the way the council provides services to it's residents and lead and build an engaging digital team.
The role will sit firmly INSIDE OF IR35 as it is part of the new structure and manages a team but the role offers a good rate accordingly.
