Here at Auto Trader UK we work in tribes, each tribe has a different customer focus and is made up of technical and non-technical squads. Our Audience Growth squad are responsible for growing our user base and crafting a personalised user experience on the site. And we’re looking for a Head of SEO to join them.
As the successful candidate, you will have full ownership of the organic search function covering B2B and B2C activities. As the voice of SEO you will lead in the Auto Trader commercial journey that will increase our customer visits, content engagement and brand presence. You will utilise digital channels to steer customers around the breadth of Auto Trader content and services. You will also keep up to date with SEO apps/platforms and trends with an always-on approach to content.
As the Head of SEO, you will set the vision, strategy and execution playbook for SEO work streams targeted to grow audience numbers. You will be working with a number of teams across the wider organisation to ensure alignment and SEO best practice. These will include our editorial team, where you will help enhance the content strategy to drive SEO growth. You will work closely with our Social Media team to boost content. You will also be confident working with our developers and designers working on both front-end and back-end environments.
Working in an agile environment your day will be extremely varied and could involve brainstorming ideas to take advantage of growth opportunities or mitigate competitor threats, as well as using tools such as Brightedge to perform keyword analysis and spot the latest search trends. You will be analysing data in Google Analytics to monitor site performance, as well as pouring over logs with tools such as Screaming Frog to optimise spidering. You will also be comfortable with crunching the numbers with a pivot table in excel to demonstrate the potential of an opportunity you’ve spotted.
As the ideal candidate, you will have a proven track record and significant experience in delivering SEO improvements that have resulted in meaningful increases in organic SEO performance within a national or global UK brand, or leading digital marketing agency. You will have team management experience, as well as managing external content marketing agencies and ownership of new recruits/training and development.
You will have worked in an agile environment, with excellent keyword/topic research and campaign planning skills. You will have experience working with editorial teams to enhance content for SEO. You will be experienced conducting competitor research, analysing Domain/SEO Authority, Site structure. Technically you will also have experience with Enterprise level SEO tools such as DeepCrawl, LogFile Analysis, and Botify.

This role can be based out of either our vibrant London or Manchester office, but you can expect some occasional travel to the other.
