Head of HR MAN Truck & Bus - part of VW Group

Henlee Resourcing has been retained by MAN Truck & Bus UK to search for their next Head of HR, a role that will help both the Employees and the Business to achieve their full potential.

Based from the Head Office in Swindon with some travel both around the UK and to Headquarters in Munich, this is a UK Board level position reporting directly to the UK MD with a dotted line to the Group HRD in Munich. The team consists of 4 direct reports, with a total team size of 13 incorporating HR, Payroll, L&D, Pensions and Administration / Internal Fleet.

Core / Key Responsibilities:

Human Resource Management

  • Plan, develop and implement strategy for HR management including - recruitment and selection policy/practices, discipline, grievance, counselling, pay and conditions, contracts, succession planning, morale and motivation, culture and attitudinal development, performance appraisals, and two-way employee communication channels
  • Liaise with other managers so as to understand all necessary aspects and needs of HR development, and to ensure they are fully informed of HR objectives, purposes and achievements
  • Monitor, coordinate and report on HR issues, opportunities, development plans and achievements to MAN executive team
  • Contribute to the development of MAN strategy and performance within the executive team
  • Establish and maintain appropriate systems for all aspects of HR management
  • Perform employee relations functions and work pro-actively with managers and supervisors to develop strategies for the resolution of human resource problems such as inappropriate employee behaviour and special performance issues, etc
  • Represent MAN at employment tribunals, in lawsuits, disciplinary hearings, grievances hearings, and complaints
  • Maintain awareness and knowledge of employment law (and contemporary HR development theory and methods) and provide suitable interpretation to directors, managers and staff within the organisation
  • Manage and develop staff within the HR team
  • Manage and control HR expenditure within agreed budgets
  • Ensure HR management activities meet with and integrate with organisational requirements for quality management, environmental policies and general duty of care

Training & Development

  • Plan, develop and implement strategy for training and development
  • Liaise with managers in the whole organisation (including Private Capital Dealers) so as to understand all necessary aspects and needs for training and development, and to ensure they are fully informed of MAN's and the Training Departments objectives, purposes and achievements
  • Manage and develop staff within the Training Department
  • Monitor, coordinate and report on training issues, opportunities, development plans and achievements to MAN executive team

Payroll, Expenses & Pension

  • Ensure that payroll is run accurately and on time every month
  • Ensure that all payroll activities comply with all relevant Directives and Regulations
  • Ensure that expenses are administered in line with all relevant Directives and Regulations
  • Ensure that pensions are administered in line with all relevant Regulations

Health & Safety

  • Ensure that high standards of health & safety are maintained throughout the organisation
  • Establish and maintain appropriate systems for all aspects of health & safety record keeping in accordance with the Law and MAN's H&S Policies

General Admin, Facilities, and & Car Fleet

  • Ensure that general administration (insurance and office supplies) and facilities (reception, catering, post) are provided in Swindon and to some extent nationally
  • Enhance the image and reputation of the company whilst supporting its commercial interests

Required experience:

  • Extensive experience of employment relations issues (discipline, grievance, etc.)
  • Experience of training and development
  • Experience of payroll management
  • Experience of H&S management
  • Minimum of 10 years general HR experience
  • Minimum of 3 years experience at senior level in ideally a retail or motor industry or related environment, ideally within a multi-site international organisation
