Our clients are looking for an experienced Head of Freight Forwarding, Please see job spec below:

To manage the freight forwarding team to deliver profitable and compliant forwarding solutions & high level of customer satisfaction

To develop and implement strategies, policies and working practices that will enable the Company to maximise its returns and margins, win recognition and grow market share as an international global logistics provider.

To project manage key global accounts; provide regular interface with the customer translating their requirements into operational specifications and manage the ongoing customer relationship

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic & Commercial

  • Build and maintain an optimal operating platform to support current and future Global forwarding business including resourcing, cost reduction and 100% compliance with all legislation and best practice.

  • Drive business improvement & growth across the Global operation setting appropriate KPIs/targets

  • Build a culture of professional competence through the Global business encompassing the full spectrum of potential loads which fall within the '3D’ criteria, with specific emphasis on all classes of hazardous goods and Security freight types.

  • Build resilience, agility and succession in work practices ensuring that we can always meet or exceed the service expectation of its customers.

  • Working with the Sales/Commercial team, drive optimal pricing strategy to fulfil growth expectations for the RT business.

Freight Forwarding/international road movements

  • Managing full life cycle of movement of goods from pick up to final delivery including but not limited to:

    • Arranging routes and schedules and confirming details with carriers

    • Booking cargo space with carriers

    • Calculating weight, volume and cost of goods to be moved

    • Using the Company’s job booking system, generate quotes, PODs, collate necessary paperwork for invoicing by accounts

    • Preparation and collation of all necessary paperwork for each movement to ensure compliancy with international legal requirements e.g. cargo manifests/ export & import licenses/permits/customs clearance/bills of lading/insurance etc.

    • Daily interface with customers, suppliers, third parties, subcontractors, crew regarding the details of the movements

    • Internal training/instruction of colleagues/crew regarding movement requirements

Compliance:

  • Accountable for high standards of compliance through Global operation in line with:

    • IATA/IMDG regulations - all classes of DG particularly Classes 1 (explosives) and 7 (radioactive)

    • Security procedures as laid down in Transport Security Plans (Section 5, Security sensitive assets) and Air Cargo Security Programme

    • Emergency procedures

    • Specific customer requirements

  • Manage the implementation of appropriate corrective and preventative action to address any non-compliance

Global Logistics Business Development:

  • Assist sales team in managing the internal bid process for potential new international logistics business

  • Undertake visits to customer, supplier, third party, etc. premises as may be required

  • Support sales & marketing department in lead generation, follow up etc.

  • Develop as required and maintain systems, procedures and policies to maintain an effective and cost efficient international logistics operation

    Project Manager - key accounts

  • Customer satisfaction/relations:

    • Manage day to day customer interface ensuring that the Company is meeting customer expectations

    • Manage customer complaints/issues escalating where necessary to ensure full resolution

    • Agree, monitor and report on delivery of KPIs as required by customer

    • Collect, evaluate and proactively respond to customer feedback

    • Continually seek opportunities to increase customer satisfaction, strengthen customer relationships and foster strong customer ties

Person Specification

Essential:

  • 5-10 years’ experience in multi modal freight forwarding: air & sea, export (predominantly)

  • Operated at senior management level with proven track record of managing/leading team and strategizing.

  • Man management skills - ability to grow, develop and lead a strong team

  • Evidence of strong partner network with demonstrable broad knowledge of air and shipping lines/routes

  • Worked with broad range of commercial customers
