Reporting to the Finance Director the Head of Finance will join M J Church, a family business and one of the region's largest contractors in the South West of England. Established in 1974, and through excellent service to customers, knowledge and experience the organisation is a leader within the industry. In addition to the three main business sectors, the company also provides skip, plant and tipper lorry hire services, recycled aggregate and topsoil sales, scrap metal, waste management, event waste management and waste solutions.
The ideal Head of Finance will have very strong accounting knowledge with previous experience of working in a construction or contracting environment. The business is very transactional, and this role will oversee the department on a day to day basis. The company is based across three sites and Head of Finance will responsible for the inter-company accounts.
*Deliver, implement and deliver all financial and management reports to the Board and Management (weekly KPI's, monthly Finance Pack, Cost Centre P&Ls & statutory accounts)
*Co-ordinate the external audit; manage all tax affairs (VAT & employment taxes)
*Develop an accounting timetable; develop efficient transaction processes; maintain accounting books and records in accordance with accounting standards; monthly reconciliation of control accounts
*Develop, implement and deliver efficient processes, administration and compliance for payroll and pension
*Develop and monitor all financial controls to ensure no material error or loss occurs; develop and deliver budgets and forecasts; assist FD in monitoring of results and enforcement of budget targets; review and analysis of performance with recommended actions
*Liaise with the contracting division to review contract performance and calculation of WIP
*Consolidate the results of subsidiary companies, manage and reconcile accounts of related companies
*Develop, implement and deliver pro-active strategies to prevent revenue or cash leakage from the business and protect profit
*Produce weekly cashflow report and forecast; manage cash within constraints of budget and banking facilities
*Provide and develop effective decision support for Management in relation to investment and all other commercial matters and post-implementation evaluation
*Lead and mentor the Finance team, ensure effective training & development
Skills & Experience:
*University honours degree and CIMA, ACA or ACCA qualified
*Minimum of 5 years post qualification experience in a finance management position
*Experience of liaison and management of external audit
*Previous experience of working in a multi-site business
*Good understanding of contracting and work in progress
*Proven success of project team and project management
*Knowledge of VAT and employment taxation
*Understanding of mid to large scale payroll systems
*Results-driven, solutions-focused with a "can do" attitude
*Clear initiative and ability to problem solve
