  • Head of English
  • January 2019
  • London Borough of Newham
  • Permanent Role
  • Full time
  • Would suit NQTs or experienced teachers

English Language is at the heart of this fantastic school, a pioneering school for 4 to 18 year olds.

This is your chance to join a brilliant team of teachers who think deeply about their craft and who shape a curriculum that brings alive the finest literature and the most powerful ideas. Their aim is to help young people develop as writers, exploring creativity, discernment and precision.

The school has a unique focus on oracy (speaking), believing it should be elevated to the same status as reading and writing. The dialogic classroom is where rich subject knowledge is allied to rigorous structures for discussion and deep thought.

English teachers have opportunities to teach in their middle school (years 5 to 8), secondary school (9-11) and sixth form and enjoy teaching discrete English lessons but also working closely with other subject disciplines, to produce books, campaigns, exhibitions and powerful learning experiences.

This is a very special and different kind of place to work in. The team empower staff to find their voice and their creativity and offer collaboration and learning across ages and subjects. All staff have more planning time than most schools and a tailored programme of professional development which results in extraordinary outcomes for the students. They also offer multiple routes to progression through subjects and pedagogies and believe strongly in developing the full potential of all staff.

If you have the drive to transform learning for our wonderful students, we want to hear from you.

If you would be interested to find out more about this role or the school and if you meet the criteria above then please do not hesitate to apply for this role with Mark Kemsley at Dunbar Education.
