Job Title: Head of Bids
Location: Reading (or Glasgow Eurocentral)
Salary: £50,000 - £75,000 depending on skills and experience + car/cash allowance + annual bonus
Permanent | Full Time Hours | 37 hours per week
You will support SSE Enterprise Contracting by managing and developing a Contracting Bid Team that can undertake every aspect of large Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) Bids valued in excess of £3m. This will be achieved through the creation of compelling, compliant and cost efficient tender responses ensuring all safety, quality, technical and commercial requirements are fully met. You will oversee close collaboration between the bid team and key operations/functional personnel (Project Managers, Engineers, Commercial etc.) through the creation of 'War Rooms' for the larger bids which act as a focal point for the bid.
Additionally you will hold responsibility for managing the Bid Pipeline through facilitating effective Qualification Reviews and ensuring each Bid is appropriately resourced; reporting on the Bid Pipeline and KPIs (e.g. conversion performance) weekly / monthly; liaising with Senior Managers to ensure all necessary support is given to a bid and that they are kept fully briefed on progress and ensuring each Bid goes through the correct Governance and planning in Governance reviews as early as possible.
The outcome is for the Head of Bids to create and maintain a world-class Contracting bid function that delivers safe, professional, compelling and ultimately winning bids valued at £3m+ that uniquely articulates SSE's value proposition and provides a solid foundation for delivery success.
Your Skills and Experience
You will have a broad understanding of current bid strategies and have strong influencing skills. You should have good knowledge of Public & Private Sector bidding as well as significant experience of managing a Bid Team on multi-million pound projects ideally gained within the M&E Contracting industry.
You will have experience of managing technical people working on concept design, detail design and cost analysis. You will have excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills, and be a proficient user of Microsoft Office, preferably with advanced knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, ADOBE. You should demonstrate the ability to create written work and presentation material of the highest standard.
As an individual you should be a motivated self-starter with a positive attitude to overcoming obstacles to solve cross-business challenges, an organised individual with excellent time management skills and a confident communicator with enhanced active listening skills.
