Head of Adult Services, Berkshire

Our client, a charitable organization, is seeking a Head of Adult Services to lead and develop the charity’s support activity for Adults (living with the conditions the charity represents). The purpose of the role will be:

  • To support the implementation of the charity’s strategic aims, with particular regard to increasing and improving individual health and wellbeing through self-management. To lead, oversee and further develop all aspects of the charity’s support activity for adults with the condition they support, optimising the support provided and growing the number of beneficiaries.
  • To liaise with health and social care professionals, commissioners in the NHS, local NHS Trusts, Health Boards and Local Authorities, to promote the benefits of supported self-management and the specific services the charity provides.
  • To manage and report on any contracts for services held by the charity.
  • To conduct or commission research on `patient’ needs and the best ways of meeting them.
  • To contribute to the annual and strategic planning of the charity and to contribute as necessary to Board meetings with the Trustees in relation to adult services.
  • To represent the charity in appropriate expert groups, partnerships and external projects.

The charity is a leader in its field, being the only national UK charity to exclusively represent the conditions it supports. They achieve a huge amount on a small budget and punch well above their weight.

Reporting directly to the CEO, they will be a part of the Senior Management Team and will play a key role in contributing to the strategic direction of the charity. There will be a team of 4 reporting to the role holder.

To be successful in this role you will have experience in:

  • Managing and motivating a team.
  • Understanding and implementation of self-management techniques in long term health conditions
  • Development and management of budgets
  • Project planning, management and evaluation
  • Higher level analysis and decision making
  • Experience of marketing in relation to statutory services
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Word; Excel; Power Point
  • Proficient use of databases and data management
  • Financial management and planning
  • Understanding of the impact of long term health conditions

A people person, you enjoy forging and sustaining relationships at all levels and will be as comfortable talking with external partners and stakeholders, pharmaceutical industry contacts government officials, MPs, key opinion leaders and the media as you are with members and volunteers.
