Job Description

Working closely with the Head of Neighbourhoods & Place (South) you will directly manage our Parks Development and Bereavement Services divisions. You will be responsible for the development of plans and policies to continually improve our parks, open spaces and burial facilities for all residents and visitors.

Playing a key role in delivering Glasgow’s new Parks & Greenspaces Vision and Glasgow’s Open Space Strategy, you will drive forward our Capital Investment Programme in both Parks and Bereavement Services areas.

Duties include the delivery of quality, high profile, capital projects that contribute to ensuring the quality, inclusivity and sustainability of our parks and green spaces, crematoria and burial grounds  
and managing the delivery of green space investment projects from inception through to completion, including external landscape designers, contractors and volunteers.

You will be join a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team and will contribute to our commitment to deliver for the people of Glasgow by providing value for money services by getting it right first time.

You will have a Degree or equivalent in land based industry sectors, significant practical experience in a management role on large scale projects and have proven experience in effective project management delivering improvements to parks and open spaces.

A thorough working knowledge of green space policies, plans and issues in an urban environment and an understanding of good procurement/contract management practice relating to green space development and improvements is required.  As is a successful track record of securing external funding from a variety of sources and experience of budget/financial management and a proven track record of delivering services within financial parameters.  Excellent stakeholder management skills with experience in contract monitoring/management and sound technical knowledge of the range of services delivered by Parks is essential. A current driving licence is also essential.
