Role Overview

The Group Commercial Director will lead the development and execution of commercial strategies across Birch Faraday’s portfolio companies. The role is responsible for driving organic revenue growth, enhancing tendering and pricing processes, and supporting portfolio Managing Directors (MDs) in improving profitability and market positioning.

Location: Office-based


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement standardised tendering and bid processes across the portfolio.
  • Lead high-value bids for key clients (e.g. NHS frameworks, local authorities) and the tendering process for new contracts and renewals
  • Support MDs in pricing, negotiations, and contract renewals.
  • Identify opportunities to grow revenue organically within each business.
  • Implement pricing models, margin tracking, and commercial performance metrics.
  • Analyse market and competitor data to inform growth initiatives.
  • Identify synergies and cross-selling opportunities between portfolio companies.
  • Develop and roll out best practices for commercial operations across all subsidiaries.
  • Track, forecast, and report pipeline activity to the CEO and MDs.
  • Build out a small team of bid coordinators or commercial analysts.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including local authorities, healthcare providers and potential partners
  • Proactively seek and secure new partnerships with housing associations, social landlords, property investors and developers to increase the company’s capacity and service offerings (social care)
  • Identify new market opportunities and lead initiatives to capture these markets
  • Mentor and support MDs and commercial teams on tendering, pricing, and client relationship management.
  • Provide actionable commercial insights and performance reporting to the CEO.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Senior commercial leader with experience in tendering, contracts, or B2B sales (healthcare, construction, or services preferred).
  • Proven track record of successfully securing and managing public sector framework contracts, ideally with local authorities, NHS Trusts or other government bodies
  • Demonstrated ability to grow private sector business, securing new clients and contracts
  • Experience developing and executing dual-market commercial strategies that balance stable public-sector income with higher-margin private opportunities
  • Stable commercial acumen and negotiation skills, capable of adapting pricing and proposition models for both institutional and private clients
  • Track record of driving organic growth and improving margins.
  • Skilled at developing processes and scaling commercial functions across multiple businesses.
  • Excellent communicator, able to influence MDs and executive leadership.
  • Analytical, with strong data-driven decision-making skills.
