Graduate PDP Transport Planner & Modeller

Posted 22 June by Surrey County Council
About the role

Transport, and planning to meet movement requirements, has been much in the news during the current Pandemic. Issues include vehicle flows especially what the new 'normal' might be, encouraging walking and cycling, pop-up cycle lanes and other measures, electric scooters and using public transport while maintaining social distancing. These are on top of the announcements made during the March budget on infrastructure investment as well as issues that are now seen as crucial to tackle such as air quality, decarbonisation, health, housing and the economy.

Surrey County Council is a progressive authority, and is one of the leading local authorities in Transport Planning and Transport Modelling with a high reputation. We are looking for candidates who can apply their interests and technical abilities who are attracted to this profession and the transport issues facing our society.

Opportunities have arisen for both recent graduates and school leavers to become part of the Team, working on bids, schemes and planning assessments. This will include analysis of issues, identification and assessment of options together with, where relevant, scheme economic appraisal as part of business case funding bids.

For those new to the profession, this is an opportunity to join our Professional Development Programme giving access to training, career development and salary progression (commencing on Grade S7 and progressing to Grade S9).

Effective team working is an essential element, as you will be working with colleagues across the organisation and with key partners. You must be able to demonstrate that you are self-motivated and interested in the field. You must have gained, or be expected to obtain, either appropriate GCSEs or A levels or a relevant degree, and be interested in gaining a professional qualification with an appropriate body e.g. IHT,TPS, CILT.
