Entry Requirements: National Certificate/BTEC in an Engineering subject
Salary: A starting Salary of £19,500 rising to £28,000 in year 4

The RWE Generation Engineering Technican Trainee Scheme is a specially designed programme which is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). Providing a sound understanding of the technical and practical skills needed to be tomorrow’s Power Generation Engineering Technicians. The programme contains a blend of block release academic study at college and practical skills training at our specialist in-house Training Academy at Ferrybridge in Yorkshire. You will also experience ‘on the job’ competency development and assessment in some of the UK’s leading power stations. You will be supported throughout your programme by experienced power industry and training professionals.
For the first 2 years of the 4 year programme you will be studying for a Higher National Certificate in Engineering Operations , which will be supplemented with a range of practical skills training held at our training facility. All accommodation and expenses whilst at College or Training Academy will be provided by RWE Generation. Following your HNC you will move on to your specialist area in your 3rd and 4th years.
Years 1 and 2
You will complete the following:
> Higher National Certificate in Engineering Operations at college
> Performing Engineering Operations at college
> IOSH Working Safely
> Technical Skills Courses in Electrical, Mechanical, Operations and Control & Instrumentation at Ferrybridge Training Academy
> Agree your specialist area of study from either: Electrical, Mechanical, Operations or Control & Instrumentation
Years 3 and 4
You will be based at a power station, developing competency in your agreed specialism, supported by power industry specialists and training staff.
> Specialist Technical Skills Courses
> CMI Diploma in Team Leading
> IOSH Managing Safely
Competency Development and Assessment Portfolio at Technician Level
> IET EngTech Application
You may also have the opportunity to further develop and work towards a Higher National Diploma in the final two years. Once you have successfully completed the programme, you can apply to be an Engineering Technician within the Operations, Maintenance or Engineering teams at one of our power stations.
