Applicants are invited to apply for the above vacancy within the Operations Department, based at the Port of Great Yarmouth. There are multiple positions available.

Role Purpose:
Provide first class labour supply and cargo handling services including the handling and transportation of freight and goods on/off vessels, lorries, and to/from storage areas.

The role of General Operative will include the following responsibilities:

-Cargo handling duties that may include but are not limited to slinging, banksman, cargo lashing, counterbalance fork truck driving, skidsteer and loading shovel operation
- Ensure performance within the department is kept at a high standard and customers instructions are precisely met
-Ensure safe, careful and efficient vessel loading and discharge, in accordance with safe systems of work
-Liaise with operations management to ensure tasks are identified and carried out to meet customer requirements
-Safe completion of processes where required including palletisation, stuffing/de-stuffing of containers and maintaining warehouse operations
-Remain flexible and reactive to changing operational requirements
-Be mindful of cost management within daily activities (energy, consumables, housekeeping)
-Clerical duties which may include but are not limited to gatehouse work, cargo tallying and weighbridge operating

Applicants interested in this role should ideally possess the following skills and experience:

-Previous experience of operational plant is advantageous, including Fork Lift Trucks and Skidsteer. Experience of using Material Handling or 360 Excavator is desirable, however full training on plant will be provided
-Knowledge and experience of cargo operations is ideal but not essential. Experience of Construction or Port Industries is advantageous
-Good understanding of health and safety best practice
-Proven experience of multi-tasking, ensuring deadlines are adhered to
-Ability to adapt to varying customer requirements
-Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
-A full UK valid driving licence is essential
