Full and Part Time Support Worker - Southampton

Posted 4 days ago by Mencap

- Would you like to finish the day knowing you have made a difference to someones life. If the answer is yes then we would love to hear from you. We are looking to recruit caring and enthusiastic support workers to join our team to assist an individual with a learning disability in their day to day life.

About the person you will support: The person you will be supporting loves coffee, but will need to be encouraged to participate in other activites as well such as swimming and exercise and his job on a Wednesday. He lives on his own in lovely bungalow that we have recently redecorated and he chose all the colour schemes. He communicates largely by signing in Makaton but will help you out if you don't know many signs. His family are incredibly important to him and he sees them weekly, they are keen to remain involved in all parts of his life and it is important that they are kept up to date with all aspects.

Crowded social settings are not fun and that is something that they would always choose to avoid.

Indoor activities include looking at books of pictures of his family, holidays and favourite things, sitting in the sun, and watching television. You will need to encourage him to enjoy a wide range of nutritious foods and he will be happy to eat out at the pub at least once per week. He has his own motability vehicle that he will need you to drive for him.

If you would like to help support this, person, who has a wonderfully full and active life, please apply and tell us why you would be a fantastic match. We include the people that you will support during most of our selection process and we take a person centred approach to recruitment.

The role: You must be willing to work flexibly as and when required. You will work on a rota basis throughout the week and at weekends - shifts may include sleeping in shifts.

One of the most amazing things about being a Support Worker is that anyone can do it! As long as you have a positive attitude and want to improve the lives of those with a learning disability, we will support you with progression opportunities throughout your career with us.
