Role Overview:
The Application Architect is responsible for the design, implementation and governance of application architecture in accordance to Enterprise standards. The Architect will work with development and architecture teams to ensure application design decision making follows a defined process and is implemented in reference to the target IT architectural standards.
Role Responsibilities:
Architecture
• Provide technical leadership across platforms; influence technical direction across the organisation ensuring all technology decisions satisfy both commercial and technical criteria
• Partner with Technical Development Managers and Test Architects to support platform delivery by providing technical direction, refining strategy and growing understanding
• Provide input and direction for system solutions to large, strategic, complex system development projects involving multiple platforms, distributed processing, multi-tier client server and web-based applications
• Recommend technology innovations which anticipate the future direction of the business, its drivers and technology strategy
• Review and ensure major architectural designs are consistent, maintainable, flexible, and in line with the strategic direction of the business
• Influence the adoption and use of new techniques and technical practices and advocates continuous improvement
• Assist Support, communicate and align technical skill development within the organisation
Supplier Management
• Assist with ensuring third parties adhere to TPICAP technical architecture and design principles
• Participation in RFI/RFP processes
• Assist with engagement with 3rd party product suppliers regarding product evaluation/selection and ongoing technical governance.
Requirements Management
• Provides strong technical leadership, advices on technology issues at all levels, identifies and advocates ways to improve effectiveness in solution design and implementation
• Own, define and review non-functional requirements
Reporting
• Align reporting to IT governance process and global architectural function
• Resource Management
• Coach and mentor technical staff
• Assist in recruitment of technical resources
Resource Management
• Coach and mentor technical staff
• Assist in recruitment of technical resources
Communication
• Communicate with senior management and stakeholders on a regular basis
• Set and continually manage technical expectations with local management team and other stakeholders
• Effectively communicate technical expectations to local team members and stakeholders in a timely, clear and concise manner
• Communicate with the wider technology teams to coordinate interdependencies and resolve issues
• Contribute to technology communities of interest in conjunction with team members both locally and within the enterprise
Change Control
• Contribute to and participate in CAB
• Ensure development teams adhere to change control processes
Quality Assurance
• Liaise with test management to develop testing strategies
• Liaise with central architecture function to ensure tooling and development quality standards are followed
Deliverables
• Responsible for the approval of low level technical design documentation
• Responsible for the creation and maintenance of defined architectural documentation (for example component diagrams, high level enterprise designs and non functional requirements, as required by the core/global architecture team.
Risk and Issue Management
• Takes a hands-on, methodical approach to identify and resolve technology issues
• Manage technical governance with timely escalation
Experience / Competences:
Education/Professional Qualifications
• Degree in a technology or mathematics discipline or equivalent industry experience
Professional Competencies
• Strong people management
Experience
• Significant Enterprise systems development experience (C++, Java, C# or similar OO stack)
• Experience of working in a cross technology environment
• Experience of designing and delivering service-based architecture and display a sound understanding of architectural and design principles
• Experience in Middleware solutions and associated Design Patterns
Knowledge
• An understanding of web based technologies (for example, HTML 5 Java Script) and where they fit into the enterprise
• A good understanding of infrastructure (for example, Networks, Servers, Cloud) and experience working with latency; performance sensitive applications in a globally distributed setting
• Good understanding of SDLC and tooling which underpins a delivery focused organisation
Desirable Criteria:
Education/Professional Qualifications
• MSc qualification in a technology or mathematics related discipline knowledge
Experience
• Recent data architecture and design experience
• Experience in analysing and migrating from legacy code based applications
• Experience of delivering business critical applications into the Cloud.
Knowledge
• Broad knowledge of Financial Markets, Systems and Over the Counter (OTC) products
