Food Chemistry Services Manager

Salary circa £46k plus car, bonus and excellent benefits

The Company

My client is a well known food manufacturer with several sites in the UK. A big brand, they now have an exciting opportunity for a Sensory Manager.

This role is based on a Monday to Friday contract of 35 hours with occasional travel required. Alongside the base salary this company provides an extensive benefits package including 25 days' holiday + bank holidays, bonus, excellent pension and additional flexible benefits.

The Opportunity.

Based at the Head Office as Chemistry Services manager you will manage a team of analysts and technicians, leading the daily operation of the chemistry service which includes sophisticated analysis systems such as liquid and gas chromatography and mass spectrometry.

As the expert in the food chemistry testing service you will maintain an authoritative knowledge of important food safety standards, regulatory developments and emerging risks for a range of key analytes and provide advice on chemical food safety to Manufacturing, NPD, Procurement and Quality, and support a food safety culture change in the business.

Some specific responsibilities include:

  • Lead the full array of chemistry-based contaminant, quality and nutritional risk assessments and manage the surveillance testing programmes driven by these risk assessments to ensure compliance with regulations and specifications.
  • Develop, validate, trouble-shoot and conduct the more complex chemical analyses required to support the business.
  • Development and validation of industry-standard chemistry methods and risk-based test programs.
  • Efficient delivery of routine and ad hoc chemistry test programs.
  • Line management for Analytical Technicians/Analysts.
  • Fulfill the responsibilities of a UKAS Quality Manager.

About You

To apply for this position you should demonstrate:

  • A fully proven background as an Analytical Chemist, with experience of developing, validating, trouble-shooting complex analytical methods.
  • Laboratory management experience.
  • In depth scientific and technical understanding of chemistry test methods, analytical systems, and risk assessment procedures.
