We're looking for an experience leader who's creative, passionate and motivated to join our amazing team at Horsey Windpump on a permanent basis. This role is based on annualised hours, where the amount of hours you work each month may vary, however your salary will be paid in 12 equal instalments over the year.

What it's like to work here

Horsey Windpump is an iconic building with a fascinating past, and the perfect gateway to experience the connection between man and nature. Standing sentinel over the mere, a climb to the top is rewarded with beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, an opportunity not to be missed. This remote location is secluded and famed for its internationally important wildlife, from the over-wintering wildfowl frequenting Horsey Mere to the Swallowtail butterfly, the very essence of a summer on the Broads.

Our tearoom and shop is situated at the side of Horsey Staithe, which is on the visitor route to the Windpump which will be re-opening to the public in early 2019. We’re expecting an increase in visitor numbers after our re-opening, meaning this role is a fantastic opportunity to develop our commercial offering.

What you'll be doing

We have an amazing team here at Horsey Windpump on the Norfolk Coast who you’ll be helping to lead, inspire, train, and support. Every penny of our profits goes back into the conservation of Horsey Windpump and our Food & Beverage and Retail teams play a key part in making this happen.

We’re expecting an increase in visitor numbers after our re-opening, so along with overseeing the Front of House Food & Beverage team and Retail team, you’ll be ready and willing to roll your sleeves up and help them to serve our visitors. In addition to this, you’ll have back office duties to tend to which will include, but is not limited to; creating rotas using the labour tool and stock management for our shop and Food & Beverage outlet.

We strive to grow our business and we celebrate innovative thinking, so you’ll have ample opportunities to seek ways in which we can further develop the offerings to our visitors. After all, it’s the money generated in our commercial outlets that allows us to continue the vital conservation work we undertake as an organisation.

You won’t be required to delve too deeply into budgeting, however, you’ll help to keep an eye on things like our staffing costs and minimising waste in order to keep these within the budget.

Who we're looking for

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have/be;

  • Good people management skills, including setting personal objectives and providing feedback
  • A track record of developing the Food & Beverage and/or Retail offer and achieving performance targets
  • Good people skills enabling effective relationships externally and internally to be built and maintained
  • A proven track record of delivering exceptional customer service
  • Great written and verbal communication skills including influencing and negotiating
  • Willing to embrace central initiatives
