Salary: From £17,867 plus enhancements (From £19,700 inclusive of enhancements based on standard full time shifts)

We are looking for motivated Healthcare Assistants who are keen to gain experience working in different mental health and learning disability services in order to broaden their skills and experience within a mental healthcare setting.
There is no better place in the UK to gain experience in various different mental health services due to the wide range of divisions we have in Northampton. This position will suit someone who is looking for a role with variety where every day is different. It could suit someone looking to take up a career in a profession like nursing or psychology looking to gain experience in different services before they specialise in the future.
You will also be able to take advantage of enhanced pay, maternity / paternity pay and annual leave as well as excellent training programmes, with opportunities to complete paid training such as nursing degree’s, specialist NVQ’s and apprenticeships too.
The Divisions you will gain experience in are below, so flexibility to work across all divisions and different wards on a daily basis will be essential for this role:
Child and Adolescent Service (CAMHS)
Men’s and Women’s Medium Secure
Autism and Learning Disability
Low Secure and Specialist Rehabilitation
Neuropsychiatry – Dementia / Huntington’s and Brain Injury, Older Adults Mental Health
The site also has facilities such as a café, garden centre, woodwork & ceramics workshop all staffed by patients and service users along with other facilities such as gyms and swimming pools that staff can use which are all based in over 150 acres of beautiful woodland grounds (please see link below).
Your role with us
St Andrew’s Healthcare in Northampton provides care for patients within low / medium secure and specialist rehabilitation services and all of our therapies, facilities, education and activities are designed to support our patients to reach their maximum potential and enable them to move forward with their journey through life. All successful candidates will be required to complete the Care Certificate.
As a Healthcare Assistant, you'll be under the guidance of a qualified healthcare professional, usually a nurse, and work with doctors, psychologists and a range of other healthcare professionals. The main contact you'll have though, is with the people in our care.
There are no set entry requirements to become a Healthcare Assistant but there are skills and personal characteristics needed, the role can be quite physically active and we would therefore require you to be able to cope with the demands of an active post. To be a Healthcare Assistant in mental health care, you'll need to be:
- Caring and kind
- Cheerful and friendly
- Willing to do personal care tasks (washing, toileting, etc.) in some areas
- Able to follow instructions and procedures
- Able to work in a team but use your own initiative
You'll also need:
- Communication and listening skills
- Organisational skills
- Observational skills
