My public sector client is looking to recruit a Fire Health & Safety Officer on a full time temporary basis for 3 months starting ASAP in central Northampton

The successful candidate will:-

- Act as a 'Competent Person’ as defined by health and safety regulations and perform the role of lead advisor to the Property Services department and the corporate Service-occupiers of the council’s estate to ensure health and safety compliance.

- Undertake Fire Risk Assessments, ensuring a systematic evaluation of all factors that determine the hazard from fire, its likelihood and the consequences if one were to occur, and clear recommendations for any measures that will reduce the risk to an acceptable level.

- Undertake on-site staff briefings and provide advice on the implementation of improvements recommended by the Fire Risk Assessment.

- Interpret relevant legislation and approved codes of practice, including changes and updates, and to advise managers of their responsibility on how to comply with that legislation.

- Provide managers with advice and support on all health and safety matters to allow them to discharge their responsibilities effectively, including establishing and maintaining regular liaison with key managers in corporate Service groups.

- Prepare and undertake health and safety site management audits, report the findings and make recommendations for continuous improvement.

- Contribute to the monitoring of health and safety management across the Council using a range of active and re-active techniques, in order to monitor current practices and to look at ways for service improvement.

- Support consultation with all employees on health and safety matters by attendance at health and safety committees to provide advice and guidance, to protect employees and the Council’s reputation.

Rate: £270 PAYE or £350 Ltd/Umbrella
