Financial Controller

Now Careers are currently working exclusively with a leading IT business based on the outskirts of Cardiff that are seeking to recruit a Financial Controller . Reporting to the Financial Director you will be responsible for leading and managing the day to day functions of their finance and procurement department and team, ensuring that strict deadlines are met for monthly management reporting.

A key requirement of the role is to work closely with the Finance Director to support the overall business to achieve its long-term goals. Strong organisational, business systems and Excel skills are a key requirements for this role as is the ability to challenge, negotiate and to make suggestions for improvement in a busy, fast paced business. Some line management and managerial experience is essential for our Finance Controller as is an ability to lead, manage, motivate and develop a team.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Day to day management of finance and procurement department
  • People Management - To motivate and manage members of the team to ensure that agreed targets, deadlines are met (e.g. 121s, progress meetings, PDRs, training analysis).
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts for reporting to the Finance Director
  • Producing a monthly Finance pack for the Board
  • Assist with the preparation of the budget and the revision of the forecast as required
  • Review of quarterly VAT returns
  • Review of monthly payroll and sales commissions
  • Coordinate the annual statutory audit and liaison with auditors
  • Responsibility for overseeing cashflow management, including interpreting cashflows and predicting future cash needs
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating KPIs
  • Ensuring processes & controls are in place, documented and adhered to

Essential skills:

  • Part Qualified / Newly Qualified accountant
  • Experience of managing a team and running a finance department demonstrable experience of being able to manage and motivate
  • Proven record of meeting strict Finance reporting deadlines
  • Understanding of the principles of revenue recognition on contracts and projects
  • Dealing with external bodies such as HMRC and auditors
  • Strong/Advanced Excel skills
  • Financial modelling experience
  • Experience of statutory account preparation and audit liaison
  • Corporation Tax, Payroll and VAT experience
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a fast paced environment .
