Totum are currently working with a top 100 law firm in its search for its first in-house finance systems specialist. Reporting directly into the Finance Partner, this is an important role for the business in establishing a platform to provide meaningful analysis to financial data to the Partners as well as maintaining and improving the firm's finance systems. The key purpose of the role is to prepare, develop and analyse financial and business information to support firm-wide decision making and, working closely with the Finance, IT and legal teams, extract and analyse data regarding the performance of the business and challenge and advise key stakeholders on future actions to support the stability and growth of the organisation.
The key responsibilities in the role include preparing periodic financial statements and reports for Senior management including management accounts, profit & loss accounts, budgets, cash flow, variance analysis and commentaries; standardising, organising and documenting financial and management information processes; analysing financial performance and contributing to department business planning and forecasts; and producing written communication and commentaries that effectively summarise findings and support recommendations. It also involves supporting in the development and implementation of key financial and business performance
KPIs which accurately and effectively monitor business performance and working closely with the SQL Manager to monitor, develop and evaluate financial information systems. Where appropriate, it will involve undertaking development work within the databases. There is also a commercial aspect to the role, namely the production of models and pricing strategies for new business opportunities, working with the Finance Partner and Senior Management to define suitable pricing strategies and providing analysis of profitability and pricing support for business units, sectors and key clients. The role also will give support to the implementation of new Business Intelligence software to improve the accessibility and effectiveness of financial and business information reporting.
Applicants should be qualified or part-qualified accountants with demonstrable finance systems expertise in the legal sector or, potentially closely aligned professional service industries. The ability to manipulate data using SQL and BI software and previous systems implementation experience is both required as are excellent communication skills with a track record of working effectively with Partners and other senior stakeholders.
