Working within a fast-paced and entrepreneurial retail environment, this role is responsible for financial accounting and reporting, managing the external audit and statutory financial statement process, enhancing the financial reporting internal control environment and implementing process improvements to establish efficient reporting.

  • Manage the period and year end timetables
  • Responsible for the balance sheet as a whole
  • Provide meaningful commentary on the balance sheets and cash flow statement, with specific responsibility for stock accounting, payroll related control accounts, fixed asset accounting and consolidation adjustments
  • Ensure latest accounting standards are complied with and best practice adopted
  • Profit & Loss/Balance Sheet/Margin Analysis to be included in the management accounts;
  • Monthly variance analysis against the Budget together with commentary;
  • Cash Flow forecast to be updated on a monthly basis;
  • Quarterly VAT Returns to HMRC


  • Lead the statutory audit process by acting as the key contact for auditors, owning the timeline and coordinating the business to ensure that all deadlines are adhered to
  • Production of statutory accounts for all entities and timely filing

Internal controls and process improvements

  • Continually seek ways to improve financial processes and how we use our systems
  • Pro-actively monitor legislative changes, assessing the impact on the group and implement adaptation of systems and processes where necessary


  • Responsible for the balance sheet model forming part of the annual budget


  • Ownership of the groups accounting policies, acting as the businesses 'go-to' person for guidance on procedures that adhere to UK GAAP
  • Complete statutory returns for Governmental and other bodies e.g intrasat / ONS
  • Management of the team

About You

  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified or close to completion
  • Two years+ post qualified experience ideally within the retail sector
  • Intermediate to Advanced MS Excel experience
  • Self-starter with a willingness to assume responsibility and take charge
  • Solid time management and communication skills
  • Ability to challenge and improve processes or procedures

You will have demonstrative experience within an SME environment exercising full responsibility for the finance function to include the preparation of the management accounts, budgeting, forecasting and reporting through to the processing of the day to day transactional duties.
