A dynamic and progressive social enterprise focused on marine conservation in the developing world is seeking a Finance Director for a London based role. The role will involve managing the finances of the organisation, a budget of £5million, plus governance, risk and compliance duties. The organisation are looking for a creative and inspirational leader, with a passion for the cause. A willingness to travel is required, as is prior experience in a similar role in an NGO.
The organisation has a range of programmes and initiatives centred around marine conservation and biodiversity in countries in the West Indian Ocean, South-east Asia and Central America. They have an ambitious strategy to reach 3 million people in coastal communities by 2020, and are looking for a driven and experienced NGO Finance Director to help them reach this goal. Working in an innovative and fast-moving charity, the role requires an individual capable of thinking strategically and being hands-on.
The role will involve:
-Managing a team of 3 finance staff
-Being a key member of the senior management team with responsibility for all of financial reporting and planning within the charity and company
-Overseeing a wide range of the organisation's administration including governance, risk, compliance and facilities, and act as Company Secretary.
-Develop and ensure financial procedures and systems are fit-for-purpose in the UK and across all international operations
-Oversee timely delivery of accurate and insightful financial and management information for the organisation
-Lead on the annual strategic and financial planning, budgeting and forecasting process
-Manage all organisation assets, facilities and resources
-Oversee payroll, expenses and employee financial benefits
-Oversee organisation financial reserves and investments
-Oversee the statutory accounts preparation and the annual financial audit
-Monitor donor budgets and work closely with the Conservation Director on donor reporting
-Fulfill the Company Secretary role and manage board meeting administration
-Lead governance and statutory matters including reporting to the Charity Commission, Companies House and other external bodies
-Play an active role in the planning and implementation of the organisation's growth strategy
-Empower, train and enable teams in country head offices and field sites to be effective and efficient by continuously improving the finance and operations
-Support the fundraising team to strengthen the business cases on funding bids and periodic reporting
-Experience of leading and managing an international finance team or function, with financial control of £5m annually and geographically dispersed employees
-The role would suit a senior finance professional with over 5 years at Finance Director level within an international conservation or development NGO
-Experience of operating at a senior management level and contributing to an organisation's strategic direction
-Experience of planning and implementation of financial and accounting process and systems improvement and international change management programmes
-Experience establishing and/or running financial operations, compliance and governance in developing nations
-An entrepreneurial mind-set naturally focused on raising the team's performance to reach the organisation's strategic targets
-Ability and willingness to undertake "hands-on" tasks e.g. project reporting, monthly management accounts
-A detailed understanding of charity accounting, regulatory compliance, risk management and donor reporting
-A relevant professional chartered accounting qualification, preferably ACA or ACCA (strongly desired)
-Passionate commitment to, and a genuine interest in, the work of the charity and the mission to help vulnerable marine ecosystems and fisher communities
-Fluency in French would be desirable
