We're recruiting for a new Finance Assistant role, working for a well established school based near Chipping Norton, as part of a lovely, welcoming team.

The Role

The Finance Assistant will be responsible for a wide range of accounts support, including responsibility for the purchase ledger and payroll functions, reporting into the Bursar.

The ideal candidate will have already gained a solid understanding of accounts and finance. You will have a strong work ethic and team working skills, as well as a passion for skills development.

Key Responsibilities

Purchase Ledger responsibilities will include:

  • Inputting invoices, cheque requests and expense claim forms
  • Invoice authorisation
  • Matching invoices to purchase orders
  • Prepare and submit payment runs
  • Remittance advices to suppliers
  • Maintaining cash book
  • Entering cash book and ledger entries into Sage
  • Answering supplier queries and credit applications
  • Reconcile supplier statements
  • Produce unauthorised invoice on a monthly basis

Payroll responsibilities will include:

  • Monthly input and processing, producing payslips
  • Produce staff heat / light for salary deductions, other staff invoices etc
  • Sending off pension schedules
  • Auto enrolment understanding
  • Administer relevant Cash Book, journals and ledger postings
  • Annual pension returns
  • Send P35s to Inland Revenue on an annual basis

Other duties may include:

  • Sales Ledger duties including inputting fee receipts and providing absence cover when required
  • Responsible for petty cash
  • Sage Bank Reconciliations
  • Maintain capital expenditure invoice file
  • Reconcile and distribute credit card bills
  • Maintain financial procedure manual
  • Any additional requested support for the Bursar

Skills & Experience

  • Relevant Finance experience - particularly strong understanding of payroll, purchase / sales ledger processes
  • Knowledge of Tax & National insurance legislation
  • Experience working within an academic environment beneficial but not essential
  • Working knowledge of Sage / Sage Payroll
  • Confident Microsoft Excel user
  • Highly self-motivated
  • Organisational skills
  • Good listener
  • Methodical & highly accurate
