Field Service Engineer, Laser Products. £26,000 to £32,000 Basic (dependent on experience), + circa £3K profit related annual bonus and benefits.
UK wide role based in Banbury. This is a very varied service engineer role with one of the UK's largest manufacturers and suppliers of lasers, photonics, optoelectronics and associated accessories. It requires an engineer that is brilliant with customers and has experience of servicing optical components, lasers, test and measurement equipment, metrology equipment or instrumentation.
Clients range from manufacturers of scientific instrumentation to F1 teams to industrial laser printer manufacturers to mainstream component and industrial manufacturing, medical devices, automotive and aerospace. As a consequence, it's a really interesting client base that have unique problems that need solving and therefore provides high levels of both job satisfaction and an ability to get on with all levels; from shop floor of an industrial client to a PhD educated R&D engineer within a scientific laboratory.
The role can be very technical but normally it's a relatively straightforward replacement of modular components. The company enjoys incredibly high levels of repeat business due to the professionalism and knowledge of their service team. The role is due to expansion and is officially UK wide and covering all sectors. In time, it is likely that you will become either a 'product champion' or work a particular client market sector.
To apply for this role, you must have field service experience and ideally this will be within a similar discipline. You will be used to managing your own diary yet be a team player, driven by delivering great service and be ambitious and self motivated. You will be looking for a long term role and in a sector where the technology and its application changes every 5-10 years you will enjoy learning new products and be a 'sponge for new information'.
As a person you will be able to get on with all levels and be personable, positive, enthusiastic and willing to learn new products in a sector with rapidly evolving technologies and applications. The company enjoys incredibly low staff attrition (they've only lost one service person in the last ten years) and are fair, open and involve all staff in the direction of the business.
Existing business is concentrated in the technology arc between Cambridge and Oxford so the ideal location would be someone living in-between with ideal locations being Bicester, Bedford, Milton Keynes, Northampton, Thame, Aylesbury, Wellingborough, Newport Pagnall. in the South East/Midlands but willing to cover the whole of the UK.
