Job Description

We are looking for a proactive and passionate female Support Worker to join our friendly and welcoming team across Milford Haven and Pembrokeshire for 30 hours per week.

If you consider yourself to be reliable, enthusiastic and forward thinking we would like you to consider joining us as a Support Worker for people with a learning disability.

You must be able to demonstrate a real commitment to Mencap and the work we do alongside the wonderful people we support. We are looking for people with a 'can-do' attitude who are strongly motivated, outgoing, caring and have a calm demeanour when needed.

You will receive bespoke training for this service, covering a number of specific skills. We aim to provide consistent, positive support to any individual and a patient and resilient approach will go a long way! This role has a unique set of challenges.

Within our Pembrokeshire service, we support two lovely ladies who both have a range of different interests. The main aspect of support that you will need to provide is allowing both ladies to have full access to the community. One of the ladies will need 2:1 care for two days a week, whilst the other lady needs supporting across four days a week.

Furthermore, within our Milford Haven service, we support another two females who both share one Support Worker between them. Both individuals love to sit down with the community complex in the apartments in which they live in. Be prepared to watch Jeremy Kyle on a daily basis, as this is a huge love of one of the ladies we support within this service.

To find out more about the ladies that we support within our services across Pembrokeshire and to help you answer our application questions, please click on the pink 'Additional Information' button after selecting the below link to present you with our One Page Profiles.

Please note, you will need to have the willingness to travel across both services. For example, you may be asked to work in our community based service in the morning/early afternoon and then resort to out Milford Haven service in the evening to cover sleep-ins. You will also need to be able to carry out personal care when required and to have the desire to lone-work at times. Please be advised, you will need to be able to administer medication when required.

A driving licence is essential so that you can meet the requirements of the people we support and the position as a whole. Mileage will be paid for.

Previous experience within the learning disability field is not necessary, but it would be an advantage to have some experience within the Health and Social Care sector.

Supporting someone with their daily life is not a 9-5 job. You will need to be able to work flexibly across a range of different shift patterns, including various day shifts, evenings weekends, some sleep-in shifts. We realise that your quality time is important too, so your rota will be prepared well in advance - Got a request, something special going on? Your manager will certainly try to help you meet it.

Please note, payment for our sleep-ins is competitive and compliant with National Living Wage requirements.

Our award winning Learning and Development department deliver a superb Induction programme to all new staff.
