What is the role?

We are seeking a highly motivated Facilities Assistant/Handy Person to assist the Facilities Manager in ensuring the safe, secure and legal operation of the company’s offices, and the smooth functioning of its facilities operations.
This varied role involves assisting in the maintenance of the building and grounds, ensuring the safety and security of both employees and premises, ensuring full compliance with Health and Safety regulations, and assisting in all facilities related tasks. You will be required to liaise with staff from across the business and external contractors to ensure that the building is maintained to a high standard. You will be responsible for minor repairs and various cleaning tasks, together with routine health and safety checks.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Buildings and grounds maintenance

o Routinely check the condition of the building and grounds;

o Report any defects, maintenance, or repairs to the Facilities Manager;

o Organise repairs by external contractors where necessary;

o Carry out minor repairs and redecoration;

o Carry out specified cleaning duties.

  • Plant and equipment

o Assist with the maintenance and functioning of the HVAC systems;

o Ensure that the plant room is a safe working environment.

  • Security and safety

o Adhere to regulations and safety procedures;

o Act as a contact for out-of-hours emergency call out when necessary;

o Assist with the efficient functioning of the access system, intruder alarm, fire alarm and CCTV system;

o Assist with inductions for new employees when required.

  • Health and Safety

o Assist with ensuring the building meets health and safety requirements;

o Carry out DSE assessments on all new employees, or when necessary;

o Carry out checks on fire safety equipment;

o Carry out checks on first-aid provisions;

o Assist with fire evacuation procedures;

o Act as fire marshal;

o Act as first-aider.

  • Facilities

o Carry out cleaning and maintenance audits;

o Assist with the management and promotion of recycling;

o Support and assist the facilities manager, and provide cover in their absence;

o Assist in the purchase, maintenance and replacement of office fixtures and fittings;

o Assist with the movement of office furniture or equipment when required.

o Assist with the management of the car parking system;

Who are we looking for?

Applicants will be educated to GCSE level or equivalent and will ideally have NEBOSH/IOSH and First Aid qualifications.

The candidate will have excellent computer literacy skills and will be flexible, adaptable and able to work without close supervision and as part of a small team. The role will include some physical work and occasional out of hour’s emergency call out. Prior experience of facilities management would be advantageous

What do we offer?

Starting salary will be in the region of £23,000p.a. plus benefits depending on qualifications and relevant experience. Lhasa provides a generous pension scheme together with 34 days personal holiday allowance, plus statutory holidays.
