Salary: £35,000 to £45,000 subject to experience and qualifications

Contract: Permanent

My client is a well established construction company based in Bristol. They are a leading regional Main Contractor, specialising in both new build and refurbishment.

As an Estimator you will manage and plan all costs associated with various types of construction projects, from the outset until completion. You will be required to negotiate with all staff, from site operatives to directs, in a professional and fair manner. You will have excellent verbal and written skills and work in line with the company’s Quality Management Policy.


Your role will include:

  • Receiving tender documentation and preparing subcontract and supplier enquiry documents
  • Preparing tender/estimates ready for adjudication with the director, including any taking-off as necessary, to create a comprehensive priced document, on time for submission in a competitive tendering process
  • Liaison with client team to complete any value engineering that may be necessary to progress the project to a site start


You will possess the following skills:

  • Good understanding and knowledge of the construction industry is vital and if from a tradesmen’s background, this is most welcome
  • The ability to read architectural drawings and understand the construction process with various elements of work involved
  • The ability to prepare contractor’s quantities from specifications and drawings
  • The ability to fit in well, work as a team member and have initiative, enthusiasm and good proactive leadership skills
  • Good communication skills and positive working attitude towards clients and architects and surveyors
  • Some understanding of current building regulations, although this subject will be client led
  • Some cursory understanding of health and safety matters
  • Good IT skills, including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Project and Word


  • Experience working as estimator and/or QS on projects and tenders
  • Building /construction related or quantity surveying qualifications. Eg. BTEC Higher National Certificate in Construction or BTEC National Diploma in Construction (or degree level)
  • Practical experience of working on public sector contracts valued between £400k and £1.5 million, will be advantageous
