I am recruiting on behalf of a Somerset based local authority, for an Estates Assistant to provide full administrative support, including telephone and interviewing for their Housing Management area team.
The main responsibilities of this role are to:
-To answer telephone enquiries, and engage in proactive telephone rent arrears recovery including negotiation with tenants on debt repayment.
-To undertake general administrative duties, including word processing, filing, the despatch of post, and the accurate recording of information on hard copy file and on computer.
-To interview tenants in arrears with their rent, and on other Estate Management issues.
-To correspond with tenants in arrears with their rent, and on other Estate Management issues.
-To make decisions on the level of repayments acceptable and take appropriate recovery action with regard to under £200 of rent arrears.
-To give welfare benefit advice and liaise with TDBC Housing Benefit Section and DSS.
-To keep in periodic contact with Area Community Managers and Estate Officers on site via their mobile telephones for security purposes, and to take instructions and/or relay messages.
-To negotiate and agree to arrangements for arrears of over £200, in the absence of the Estate Officers.
-To monitor rent arrears cases and make recommendations to the Estate Officers on the service of NSP, Court action, etc.
-To check and despatch computer-generated rent arrears letters in respect of under £200 rent arrears.
-To provide complete secretarial support for mutual exchange process. To update the statistics and liaise with exchanging Authorities and Housing Associations on the agreement of exchanges.
-To make referrals to County Court on the request of the Estate Officers.
-To advise tenants of the outcome of legal action and what legal action entails.
To be successful in applying for this role, it is a necessity that you an excellent working knowledge of Housing Lettings, Housing Benefits And Debt Management Processes. You will ideally have previously worked in an income, or debt recovery role for a housing association or local authority.
It is also a key requirement that you have outstanding customer service and administration skills, in order for you to be able to provide a top quality service to residents.
This is a full time role on a three-month contract, to cover a period of absence.
