English Teacher (SEND) required in highly supportive SEND school for 7 -16 students.
An exciting and rewarding opportunity for an experienced English Teacher (SEND) to teach at a school that caters for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. Many children also have a range of additional special needs including Autism, ADHD, OCD, Anxiety, Dyslexia and Speech and Language delay. The young people have a range of learning disabilities and challenging behaviours, so the successful candidate must have experience in both areas.
The English Teacher (SEND) role would include:
Your overall responsibility is to ensure all students have equal opportunities to develop themselves academically. This will be achieved by promoting the importance of education and supporting the specific needs of the young people in the class room and at other group activities. You will promote self-esteem and support the students in making informed decisions. The successful candidate will be qualified to degree level and have a teaching qualification enabling them to teach English up to A Level. Experience of teaching and supporting students with special educational needs, particularly those who have a diagnosis of autism and associated disorders, is also necessary. Class sizes are typically no larger than eight students and each class has a dedicated Learning Support Assistant. The role demands the application of specialised teaching approaches, systematic planning and record keeping and the management and deployment of support staff as well as good ICT skills. This role will also involve a level of personal care and you will need to support with physical interventions when necessary to ensure the safety of learners and other staff. Full training for this will be given.
