As an experienced leader in the field of design and development of medical device or combination products, you will manage a team of engineers, contractors and support staff.
You will have state-of-the-art knowledge of the regulations, directives, guidelines and standards, engineering practises, tools and technologies relevant to the development of medical devices and combination products.
You will provide robust technical challenge to the projects in your teams’ care, supporting and coaching the members of your team, in order to ensure that projects are delivered according to best engineering practice, delivering safe and effective products.
You will support the Engineering Manager and play a leading role in the development and maintenance of departmental operating systems and processes.
Team leadership and full Line Management responsibilities for a team of Engineers, other FTEs and contract staff.
Ensure that the products for which your team is responsible are:
(a) robust in design through the application of appropriate engineering design and analysis, verified by the provision of objective evidence of reliability, safety and efficacy.
(b) conducted in compliance with SDT’s Quality Management System.
Manage relationships with contract design houses, contract manufacturing companies and specialist external suppliers.
Representation in internal and external audits.
Play a leading role in the continuous improvement of departmental practises, including supporting development of Standard Operating Procedures, guidelines and templates, introduction of new software tools etc.
Travel globally as required to support the projects, up to 25% of time out of the office. Travel might include visiting suppliers’ facilities or manufacturing sites
Contribute to the development of device strategy.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
Graduate in Engineering, Scientific or other Technical discipline.
Demonstrable relevant industry experience in product development, from concept to commercialisation.
Previous experience in the design, manufacture and life-cycle management of medical device or combination products (preferred, or significant specialist expertise from another relevant industry).
Previous line management experience of an engineering team (preferred).
Advanced skills in mentoring and coaching skills.
Recognized as an engineering authority within, both within and beyond SDT.
Ability to objectively assess projects, identify gaps or challenges and direct problem solving activities.
