Our client is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of superior natural stone and innovative concrete hard landscaping products supplying the construction, home improvement and landscape markets. 

Position: Engineering Planner 
Location: Sandy, Bedfordshire, SG19 1QY 
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent 
Hours:40 hours per week 
Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday 08.00am to 17.00pm 
Salary: £36,000 to £44,000 per annum

About the role: 

The Engineering Planner is accountable for the provision of a safe, cost effective and proactive maintenance planning service that facilitates excellent execution of maintenance activities to factory assets and equipment. Ensures engineering spares and inventory are catalogued and available to support asset reliability. 


- Line management of up to 5 people, managing stores functions, managing the CMMS system 
- Support the Engineering Operations Manager to meet / exceed KPIs for schedule compliance, work volume and inventory levels and drive a proactive approach to the prevention of equipment failure 
- Ensure all company policies and procedures are adhered to and embedded into the culture 
- Ensuring that all personal behaviour is consistent with safe working and that the behaviours of others are challenged if they are putting themselves or others at potential risk 
- Ensure that all relevant equipment has required statutory checks in place 
- Ensure that equipment is maintained to standard ensuring product can be consistently manufactured within tolerance 
- Ensure that engineering plan is managed to ensure that holidays do not impact on engineering schedule compliance 
- Consistent application of HR processes (attendance management / disciplinary / grievance etc.) within relevant level of authority 
- Delivery of team briefs / toolbox talks 
- Deputise for Area Engineering Manager / Engineering Operations Manager 
- Lead apprentice programme at site level 
- Ensure all assets are maintained to minimum legal standard and meet insurance requirements, (lifting equipment, pressure systems and LEV) 
- Implement an effective Engineering Planning System that maximises utilisation of resources, (people and R&M budget) 
- Produce a weekly engineering schedule to ensure maintenance is executed to the highest of standards and delivers asset reliability 
- Spend time on the plant to ensure engineering work is planned and estimated within cost and delivers value for money maintenance 
- Schedule a balanced PM system to deliver agreed engineering KPI’s 
- Measure and publish engineering KPI’s weekly 
- Develop a unit structure to support spares management, track asset costs & equipment reliability 
- Manage, track and report engineering spend to support fixed plant repair (FPR) budget delivery 
- Implement an effective engineering stores management system to ensure critical spares are always available 
- Manage engineering contractors and their activities whilst on site through effective use of Contractor Control Procedure 

About you: 

- GCSE or equivalent. (A to C qualifications. Math’s & English essential) 
- ONC / HNC or equivalent 
- IOSH Managing Safely / NEBOSH General Certificate desirable 
- Electrical and / or mechanical qualifications / time served apprenticeship 
- Experience of operating in a medium / large automated manufacturing operation with relevant safety systems, quality standards, housekeeping standards etc. 
- Experience of leading a team of engineers is desirable 
- Experience of computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS) 
- Experience of spares management systems would be an advantage 
- Some experience of continuous improvement / lean manufacturing techniques e.g. DMAIC, would be an advantage
