You will provide leadership to a cross-functional engineering team, managing the engineering lifecycle across several business platforms and/or supporting infrastructure. Managing the Publication and Production Platforms Team, you will be responsible for IOP production and publication systems supporting the workflow from peer review through to publication.
The role entails both line management and technology management responsibilities. You will focus on managing technical risks, delivering against business strategy and ensure that within the team you attract, retain and develop the best talent. You will also be responsible for the management of both in-house development resources and third party suppliers.
Knowledge & previous experience
- Line management experience.
- Team leadership experience.
- Agile, lean and devops experience.
- Good cross-functional knowledge across ops, devops, QA, development & delivery.
- Good knowledge of appropriate tools and technologies.

The Institute of Physics Publishing is an international scientific publisher, delivering leading-edge research worldwide. Our digital portfolio includes the IOPscience journals platform, Physics World news and regional websites.
The tech department is made up of Digital Transformation - leading on digital delivery and global digital services and Engineering - providing technical leadership for software development, QA, DevOps and application support. Our IT department has approximately 50 members of staff and also work closely with an offshore development team.
