This Newark based employer who has experienced positive growth in 2017 seeks an Engineering Buyer to join their small Procurement team.
If you apply, you need to have experience within the building/construction, engineering or manufacturing sector and be able to interpret engineers drawings.
This is a full time, permanent position and needs the right person to have previous purchasing/buying experience.
The main responsibility of this role is to interpret engineers drawings and then procure a number of raw materials ensuring price and quality are the best available. The role will require you to work closely with project teams to understand the weekly production requirements as well as working closely with suppliers to understand market changes which may impact supply requirements.
In a little more detail, you will:
Work closely with engineers drawings and make buying decisions based on these
Negotiate, or renegotiate, and administer contracts with suppliers
Analyse price proposals and other data and information to determine reasonable prices
Confer with Quality and Production to discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services and assist in determining corrective action
Initiate projects to reduce the total cost of raw materials and packaging goods
Evaluate and monitor contract performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and to determine need for changes
Maintain and review computerised or manual records of items purchased, costs, delivery, product performance, and inventories
Monitor shipments to ensure that goods come in on time and in the event of problems, trace shipments and follow up on undelivered goods
Prepare purchase orders, solicit bid proposals and review requisitions for goods and services
Create and manage a weekly production schedule
Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities
Review product specifications maintaining a working technical knowledge of the goods or services to be purchased
Arrange the payment of duty and freight charges
Monitor changes affecting supply and demand, tracking market conditions, price trends, or futures markets
Who should apply?
The team needs someone who has worked in purchasing for at least 3 years, ideally a little more. Someone who has worked in engineering, manufacturing or construction is essential. You’ll need great communication and negotiation skills and will be someone who easily builds rapport.
