Lead on employment law issues and to provide a high quality, value for money service to Public Sector Organsiation based in Thames Valley. Specifically, as the sole employment lawyer in the Department, to provide employment law advice on policy, practice and individual cases
Provide leadership and direction to the Employment Relations Team; in partnership with the Employment Relations HR Business Partners, and line manage the Employment Paralegal
Provide case management and legal advice to the Thames Valley Authority and senior managemnt on the full range of employment matters. This will include; Employment Tribunals, disciplinary cases, conflict resolution and grievance casework, including use of Counsel as required; re-organisation and redundancy issues; employment contracts; discrimination issues; Health and Safety and Working Time issues; medical retirement and pension issues; interpretation of police regulations
Act on behalf of the organsiation in Employment Tribunals and High Court proceedings, including advocacy in appropriate cases
Skills & experience required:
Law graduate with recent and extensive post qualification experience as a Barrister or Solicitor
Substantial practical experience in employment law matters including application of discrimination legislation.
Case management, for example Employment Tribunal proceedings.
Experience of advising on and concluding negotiations to resolve cases (e.g. compromise agreements)
Preparing and presenting contextual information (in oral and/or written form), for example "updates" on new legislation and case law (for example for Human Resources professionals and line managers), identifying the impact of changes for an organisation.
Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills with proven ability to operate as an effective member of a multi disciplinary team
