The Employment department -

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic Employment team which helps clients to manage their employment issues with confidence. They cover all aspects of Employment Law, providing commercially focused, cost-effective advice to clients. As a member of this team, you will deal with high-quality work for a wide range of clients from small family-run companies to large multinational corporations and everything in between, as well as for senior directors and executives. The work is very predominantly employer focussed with roughly a 90:10 split between employer and senior executive work.

Examples of recent work dealt with by the team -

·Acting for an international media company on the restructuring and amalgamation of two operations following a Far East business acquisition including dealing with the transfer of UK based employees.

·Advising a new private equity-backed business on the employment implications of the purchase of around 140 retail stores involving the TUPE transfer of some 2,500 staff.

·Advising Jardine Lloyd Thompson Plc in the defence of a High Court claim for damages totalling $100m arising from a recruitment exercise involving the hiring of 38 employees from Willis Group Limited’s Fine Art Jewellery & Specie division.

·Advising an international publication company on a redundancy programme following closure of a UK division and the start-up of a new business.

·Advising an international pharmaceutical company on the restructuring of its global R&D division, including a relocation of approximately 60 employees within the UK.

·Advising an international regulatory organisation in the defence of an Employment Tribunal claim of sexual harassment, sex discrimination and unfair dismissal.

·Advising a senior director of a global entertainment company on the terms of their new contract following promotion.

·Advising a regulated professional against allegations of misconduct and under-performance.

·Advising a hedge fund on the closure of one site of operation and potential allegations of disclosure of confidential information and unlawful competition by a Director.

·Advising a professional services firm defending allegations of breach of post-terminations restrictions on poaching clients.

As the Employment team grows its contentious and non-contentious offering, the aim is to recruit astute, commercially minded associates to represent the companies brand. Offering exceptional training, individual marketing plans and a transparent career development track through to partnership.

The role -

As an associate in the Employment department your role is to provide an excellent all-round Employment Law service to clients. The role will involve roughly a 33:33:33 split between corporate and property transactional support, HR advisory work and litigation assistance (including the provision of solution-based advice to clients who seek our counsel on their employment matters). The associate will need to inspire confidence, demonstrate strong oral and written skills and be adept at developing client relationships to understand their commercial needs.
