Employee Benefits Consultant, Surrey

Our client specialises in consulting of all types of benefits, including: Auto-enrolment and Workplace Pensions; Group Risk; Healthcare and Well-being; Flexible Benefits and Voluntary Benefits; Multinational Benefits and Executive Wealth Management. Due to growth we are now seeking a full time Employee Benefits Consultant with extensive experience in this area.

Job Purpose:

  • This is a non-regulated, B2B, corporate pension and employee benefits role
  • Maintain and develop a portfolio of new and existing corporate clients by providing high quality advice and consultancy to an agreed budget
  • Ensure that revenue from this portfolio is profitable, identify and expand lines of cover and service delivery
  • Identify and pro-actively develop new business opportunities
  • Provide a professional high quality service to all clients, colleagues and other third parties
  • To not only meet but to exceed both internal and external client expectations

Key Accountabilities/Deliverables:

  • Responsible for client account ownership - anticipates and responds to the on-going and future needs and objectives of clients, with a prompt and flexible approach to meet and exceed their expectations and ensure consistent delivery of outstanding service
  • Actively contribute towards the development and management of the Employee Benefits corporate objectives
  • Demonstrates extensive and up to date technical employee benefits knowledge at all times, advising clients as required within the designated Permitted Areas of Activity as confirmed by line management/Compliance
  • Maintains and develops strong relationships with both new and existing corporate clients, and is relied upon as their trusted adviser
  • Develop effective internal and external relationships to assist in providing an efficient professional service to clients in line with service agreements and manage their expectations on work being undertaken
  • Achieve and exceed revenue targets, through retention of existing clients and new business generation
  • Ensure the profitable growth of the business by identifying and pro-actively developing and securing additional revenue from existing clients and new client relationships through cross selling initiatives, referrals, professional connections and leverage the Groups network
  • Pro-actively identify other new business opportunities for both Wealth Management Advisers and General Insurance broking colleagues within the Group
  • Take overall responsibility to ensure all clients are profitable, serviced on the agreed standard / bespoke pricing basis, and fee invoicing process is undertaken in a timely manner
  • Ability to draw up and negotiate on services / fee proposals - subject to the standard fee pricing structure and approval protocols in force
  • Ensure any additional services offered to clients are agreed on the standard fee pricing basis through sign off by management
  • Monitor income to ensure budget achieved and financial control over Consultant portfolio and client budgets
  • Identify potential unprofitable clients and agree with management what action, if any, is required
  • Ensure adherence to the firm’s engagement and re-engagement procedures, with suitable protections in place
  • Preparation of detailed client reports, power point presentations, spreadsheets etc
  • Management of time scales - ensure all client deadlines and service levels are met or client/management informed otherwise
  • Work closely with and assist in the development of Associate Consultants and others within the team as directed by line management
  • Undertake all projects in a professional, timely and compliant manner in liaison with other teams as required


  • Hold the relevant professional qualifications as required for individual role: Group Risk (ie CII GR1); Healthcare (CII IF7); Pensions (ie Pensions Management Institute diploma level)
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as required to maintain and enhance knowledge and skills


  • QCF Level 4 (Diploma level PFS or PMI) qualification

Technical Knowledge and Understanding:

  • Extensive and up to date technical knowledge of employee benefits consultancy (eg Corporate DC Pensions / Group Risk / Healthcare) through appropriate industry exams and CPD, including products, markets, the required regulatory standards and their relevance to corporate clients
  • Keep up to date with key developments, industry/market changes and regulation
  • Awareness of the regulatory requirements in respect of 'advised’ and 'non-advised’ sales, and in particular evidencing the standards and knowledge required in respect of giving advice and making recommendations to customers


  • Demonstrable experience within similar role in Financial Services
  • Demonstrable record of high sales success, with ability to manage and develop compliant business from new and existing clients in the corporate client arena
  • Service and sales orientated: outstanding customer service, translates client needs into engagements, demonstrates commerciality in their actions, established network of clients internally and externally, developing and maintaining strong relationships
  • Strong verbal and written communication/presentation skills at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Attention to detail in all areas of work, including ability to produce high standards of documentation
  • Proven project management capability and experience
  • Able to deal with change in a positive way
