Electronics Engineer

Hirsch and Mann are seeking an experienced Electronics Engineer with a demonstrable background in mechatronics to join their team.

You will be responsible for all electronics and mechatronics coming out of the Hirsch & Mann studio, using your expertise to support and innovate on projects, and lead on R&D projects in a particular technology area. Developing and prototyping ideas quickly and iterating them just as quickly is a key part of our company’s commercial offer. We have a culture that lives and breathes "learning by doing" as a principle.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, program, and test electronics and mechatronics modules and systems for the needs of interactive experiences and physical technology prototypes of the studio
  • Low-volume production of in-house PCB designs through use of SMT pasting and a reflow oven
  • Working with manufacturers and suppliers to procure components and designs quickly, efficiently, and cost-effectively
  • Debug, repair, and improve electronics and mechatronics aspects of previous projects that may be missing documentation and/or designs
  • Travel to project locations for install and maintenance, whilst being responsible for the relevant electronics/mechatronics outcomes
  • Ensuring our mechanical and electronic work spaces are fit for purpose, with appropriate tools and a staple set of electromechanical components always on hand for prototyping

Required Skills:

  • Electronics Design & Engineering, encompassing prototyping, schematic capture, PCB design, manufacturing, and testing
  • Programming (C/C++/Java/Python), including but not limited to embedded systems
  • CAD proficiency, particularly in SolidWorks and Rhino for rapid prototyping
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Meticulous organisation across project deliverables, equipment, and component stocks

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Level 6 or equivalent degree in Electronics Engineering or similar
  • Certified training in a professional PCB design tool (either P-CAD or Altium)
  • History of successful collaborations with designers/creatives on mechatronics projects
  • Hands-on experience in low-volume in-house PCB production & testing
