CAF is a world class leader in the international market for the design, manufacture, maintenance and supply of equipment and components for railway systems.

It’s an exciting time to join, as in 2017 CAF celebrated its 100th year, and announced plans to build a new state-of-the art assembly hub in Newport. The new assembly hub is being designed to build a range of different trains, including diesel multiple units (DMUs), electric multiple units (EMUs), trams and high speed trains.

Job Summary 

The Testing Technician is responsible to perform a variety tests on systems, sub-assemblies, and parts to ensure unit functions according to specifications or to determine cause of unit failure, in order to ensure that production objectives are met, whilst sustaining quality in a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities 

Tests and measurements:

Prepare the workstation with the tools and test equipment to perform the required tests

During tests, check that the operation of equipment corresponds with the definition reflected in the procedures

Keep and protect dismantled equipment for testing purposes and ensure proper assembly

Store and clean the workstation at the end of the activity

Correction of defects:

Search for the origin of the defects found during the tests

Resolve problems and/or report to the team leader any defects and/or incidents

Verify that the solution implemented validates the test


Write a report at the end of each test to allow delivery

If necessary, write a report with the failures and anomalies detected

Ensure personal compliance with all HSE legislation and HSE Company policy

Be fully familiar and conversant with department and company policies, procedures and processes, ensuring all work and actions undertaken are in full compliance at all times

Support other departments and carry out other duties as and when business requirements dictate as may be reasonably expected by line manager

Other ad-hoc duties and special projects as required 


NVQ Level 3 / Modern Apprenticeship in electrical or mechanical discipline.
