About the Role

We now have a new opportunity for an Electrical Technician, working as part of an experienced team, to install and commission the world-leading instrumentation and associated facilities used by international scientists.

You will help maintain the equipment on the Diamond beamlines (research stations), and work with beamline scientists and engineers to test and install new equipment. You will ensure that all beamline electrical work is carried out in a safe manner, and that the new equipment is effectively integrated and installed.

You will also play a part in our major multi-million pound facility upgrade planned for the coming years, known as Diamond-II, which will generate an even more brilliant light source at a higher energy.

Further responsibilities will include:

  • Maintenance, development and upgrading of existing electrical beamline components;
  • Installation and commissioning support for specialist equipment, including working on all electrical aspects of the scientific instrumentation including racks and field equipment, and installation of motors and electrical sensors for items such as vacuum, pneumatics, water flow and temperature monitoring;
  • Undertaking testing and fault finding;
  • Assisting scientists in support of user experiments.
  • General laboratory work including some electrical cabling and build of simple electronic devices and some mechanical assembly.

About You

You should have served a recognised Engineering Apprenticeship or demonstrate equivalent on-the job experience.

Qualifications in BS7671 Wiring Regulations and City & Guilds 2391 Electrical Testing & Inspection are beneficial but not essential.

Further experience of Electrical cabling to 17th/18th Edition Wiring Regulations is desirable, as is experience of working to electrical drawings.

You will display good communication and interpersonal skills to work with people at all levels as good team work is essential.
