Our client is a large rural district with a lot to offer. They are consistently rated as amongst the best areas in the country to live, with excellent schools and healthcare, a huge array of green space unique market towns and picturesque villages. They also enjoy high levels of employment and a diverse local economy, with the added benefit of being close to London and Cambridge and with good access to Stansted and Luton airports.
There are however challenges. As with many areas in the South East, they need to work closely with developers and key partners to ensure housing growth is balanced with the right levels of investment in infrastructure. They want to ensure that East Herts and North Herts remain places that entrepreneurs and companies want to do business and not just a place where people live and commute to London, Cambridge and elsewhere.
Position: Economic Development Officer
Location: Hertford & Letchworth Garden City
Contract type: Full Time, Fixed Term 12 months
Hours: 37 hours per week
Salary: £29,908 - £34,022 (inclusive of local weighting)

About the Role:
To help them prepare for the future they have created the role of Economic Development Officer for both districts. The post holder will work jointly for the interests of both councils to strengthen relationships with the business community and ensure economic growth is being actively supported.
The role offers an exciting opportunity to work jointly across two areas promoting economic growth and development. You will develop strong networks and relationships with the business community in both East Herts and North Herts, ensuring their interests are represented in council decision making processes through strategy development and delivery of key projects.
Although delivering against the separate priorities of each council, you will be expected to maximise opportunities for further joint working and ensure that businesses are receiving coherent and high quality support from a range of areas including grants, start up support and regulatory services in both districts. You will be expected to travel between both districts covering their respective rural and urban areas in promoting economic development.
Ideally you will have a track record of working with SMEs and delivering projects to improve economic growth. Knowledge and understanding of the business profile in East Herts and North Herts would be helpful. You should have experience of working with local communities, businesses and partner organisations on economic development. Strong networking, communication and IT skills are essential.
