Location:Blakenhall Community and Healthy Living Centre, or a facility operated or occupied by Safeguarding, Business Support and Community Services or any other suitable location within the City of Wolverhampton.
Hours:As specified in letter of appointment. These will not follow normal office hours and evening, weekend and Bank Holiday working will be required.
Job Purpose and Role
To develop and operate quality recreation facilities, ensuring excellent standards of customer care and service in a multi-purpose building. To help set operational standards and services at an exceptional level for each facility and ensure they are maintained through the effective motivation and supervision of staff. A Level 3 Fitness Qualification is needed to teach fitness classes on site.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
*On a shift system, to be responsible for the following:
oDay-to-day operational decisions to resolve problems and conflict
oCarrying out daily maintenance checks and works
oAchieving set standards of presentation and cleanliness for the facility
oIn the event of heavy usage, ensuring effective people management
oSupervision of ongoing repairs and maintenance work by outside agencies Ensuring adherence to health and safety procedures and codes of safe working practice
oAchieving high standards of appearance, behaviour and communication from staff
oInitially dealing with staff issues, eg. lateness, poor performance, etc
oReconciliation of cash at end of the operating day and completion of the necessary financial records
oTo raise orders and process invoices as requested by the Centre Co-ordinator
oTo provide an emergency capability and administer first aid treatment as and when required
oTo deal with enquiries and complaints
*Assisting in the development and operation of a facility against the adopted management plan and relevant development plans.
*In the event of an emergency incident, to exercise the appropriate control and management, working within the established emergency procedures. If available, the advice and support of the Healthy Living Centre Co-ordinator should be sought. However, the Duty Officer will, if necessary, have responsibility for the following:
oCo-ordination and direction of staff
oInitiating the involvement of the statutory services
oEvacuation of part or all of the facility by agreed procedures and methods
oCompletion of the appropriate incident form
*To deputise for the Centre Co-ordinator in their absence.
*As a member of the centre management team, to play a full part in the activities of the facility.
*To keep all necessary records in accordance with the Operations Manual.
*To attend further training relevant to the post.
*To supply management information as requested by the Centre Co-ordinator.
*To inspect the fitness suite and equipment daily and initiate repair work as required through the Healthy Living Centre Co-ordinator.
*To carry out inductions for all age groups (14 years and over) and the Council's target groups.
*To be involved in gym and set sessions as instructed by the Centre Co-ordinator.
*To be a key holder as and when required.
*To administer all activities associated with the use of the fitness suite and inductions.
*To ensure that the Council's administrative procedures, systems, Standing Orders and financial regulations are adhered to.
*To ensure that all practices comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
*To comply with the Council's agreed policies and procedures including but not limited to Health and Safety, and Equal Opportunities Policies, the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act, Financial Management Regulations and other relevant Council and Government Regulations, Directives and City wide priorities.
*To undertake any other tasks, duties and responsibilities as directed and appropriate to the grade and role of the post subject to any reasonable adjustments under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 as incorporated into the Equality Act 2010.
*To participate in the wider development of the service and contribute to service improvement as required.
