If you like people and LOVE dogs, this might be the perfect job for you.
As a Dog Walker, you’ll spend your time with us making sure our pack members get the walks they need whether that’s on their own, with a pal in a pair walk, or as part of a larger group. Walks can vary in length too, but generally you’ll spend between 30 and 60 minutes with each dog, pair, or group.
Your average day
You’ll start each day by checking your rota and seeing which four-legged friends you’ll be spending time with that day. That way, you can make sure you have all of the right keys with you and also start thinking about the routes you’ll take between houses.
You’ll leave home at around 09:00 to arrive with your first poochy pal and be out walking for 09:30 - 10. Once done with the walk, you’ll give them chance to go to the bathroom if they didn’t while you were out walking before making sure they’ve got water and then leaving, double and triple-checking the door is locked after you unless the owner is in.
From there, you’ll continue your route, driving between houses and to collect each dog and walking them in the local area unless they’re on a pair or group walk, in which case they’ll join you in your car on route to pick up the rest of the gang and head somewhere nice for a walk. There’s not much downtime, so you’ll appreciate the sit down when you’re driving between!
While out on your walks, you might also grab a few snaps or videos to share with the owner if there’s something cute, funny, or cool happening!
Then, once you’ve finished your route, you’ll head home. Once there, you’ll take all of the keys from your car and store them safely back in your lockbox (supplied by us) before getting the kettle on and having a well-earned brew!
Hours for this position can vary and are expected to grow. That said, this position won’t be suited to anyone looking for full-time work. New client meet and greets do call for some flexibility to meet people/dogs in evenings or on weekends, but where possible our Chief Walker will pick those up. We’ll typically require consistent availability between 9 am and 3-4 pm.
To make a great Walker, you’ll be great with people and even better with their fur friends! That’ll mean being personable, trustworthy, patient, kind, and most importantly, reliable. After all, if you don’t show at short notice, members of our lovely pack won’t get the exercise and mental stimulation they need while their owner’s busy. Not to mention a bathroom break!
Experience with dogs is absolutely essential, and you’ll need to have a great sense of when they can play off lead and when they should stay on.
As you’ll be accessing people’s homes, all candidates will be DBS checked prior to starting but don’t worry, we’ll cover any associated cost for that.
We began our journey in January 2020 to help owners keep up with their poochy pal’s needs while they’re busy working or playing! Since then we’ve been incredibly fortunate to build up a fantastic group of clients and amazing doggos that we just love spending time with.
This will be our first hire as a business and mark an important stage in our growth, so we’re really excited to find the right walker to join our team. We do expect demand to continue and therefore hope for hours and earning opportunity to grow for anyone who joins the team.
