District Manager

We are currently recruiting for a District Manager due to an internal promotion to lead 19 stores across the South East. Reporting to the Head of Field Operations you will be instrumental in driving these stores towards maximising sales and profitability through the performance and development of Store Managers and Store Assistant Managers.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Maximise sales and profitability in Stores
  • Maximise customer loyalty and return visits through Customer conversion, acknowledgement, awareness and high service standards
  • Ensure store standards are consistently delivered
  • Ensure strong Commercial/Promotional merchandising throughout the Store to engage Customers and optimise incremental sales
  • Ensure Stores consistently have optimum range breadth and stock levels
  • Responsible for appointing 'on-strategy’ Store Management Teams with the support of HR
  • Oversee effective and 'on-strategy’ recruitment and selection in Stores through working with Store Managers with the support of HR
  • Ensure, through the management of Store Managers, that every store provides regular training and development for all Colleagues
  • Encourage, motivate and coach Store Management Teams to deliver agreed objectives
  • Monitor and address Store performance to ensure it remains in line with agreed targets. This includes business initiatives such as Business KPIs, the Customer Representative programme and active selling initiatives such as the Hot Product Programme
  • Oversee efficient management of poor performing stores in line with Operation Programmes
  • Agree and set budgets, targets and objectives for Stores and Store Managers
  • Responsible for the control of all Store controllable costs in line with agreed financial budgets
  • Responsible for all aspects of payroll and stock loss in Stores in order to ensure Stores achieve store contribution targets
  • Action and report any urgent repairs and maintenance requirements needed in Stores to ensure compliance with all H&S regulations.
  • Facilitate regular Team Meetings with Store Managers and ensure Stores have at least 1 Team meeting per quarter
  • Attend and participate when required in regular sales and operational meetings as well as Retail Support Centre meetings
  • Regularly visit stores and carry our Store Visit Reports - all stores in the District must be visited at least once every 2-3 weeks
  • Ensure Stores and Colleagues comply with and operate according to our Company Policies and Procedures at all times
  • Support wider business initiatives by occasionally taking on and or leading Operational Projects in addition to existing responsibilities
  • Responsible for short and long term succession planning in Stores
  • Responsible for authorising and managing Store Management Time off including holidays

Skills and Characteristics:

  • Previous experience in a multi-site Retailer
  • Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Motivational, adaptable with proven leadership skills
  • Strong ability to prioritise and plan
  • Strong business acumen
  • Field role and daily travel and occasionally may be required to stay away
  • Employee Relations/HR background essential
  • Willing to go that extra mile to get the job done
